Player's Name: Fleur Other Characters: Edric is my first! Contacts: Pm & c-box or ask me for my aim-name Random Fact: A civet once licked and almost bit my hand, it was adorable.
Name: Edric Ariston Vosper Alias: The closest he's ever gotten to a nickname is “Ed”, but the few times that abbreviation of his name has been spoken, it was ignored. Age: Sixteen Birthday: December 12th Gender: Male Blood: Halfblood Sexual Preference: Straight (or is he?) Wand: Aspen wood, Phoenix tail feather, 12 inches, sturdy Pet: None Special Ability: None
Year: Sixth House: Slytherin
Best Subject: With the ability to keep a cool mind in tense situations and react quickly, Edric is exceptionally good at duelling and the Defence Against Dark Arts. He also quite enjoys Charms. Worst Subject: Divination. The Slytherin was always too rational and perhaps conservative person to try and allow himself to slip into the right frame of mind for Divination. He was quite relieved when he could choose something else. Also, he doesn't really care for Magical Creatures... haha. Quidditch: Team Captain and Chaser Patronus: Not yet.
Hair: Dark and always neatly trimmed. Eyes: His rich brown eyes are rather broad than round. The heavy lids lend the young man a relaxed and nonchalant look, though you can see the spark of passion and determination behind the eyes when he talks. Height: 6'2” Weight: 165 lbs
Coming from a noble wizard family (at least half-way), Edric was bred to represent certain values and behave according to a strict etiquette. Yet unlike other youths, it doesn't come as a burden to the Slytherin male; he embodies what is expected from him with great ease. He knows his place in the complex social structures well and shows the appropriate respect to those superior to him. In his academic career, he goes after the “right” things, shows an adequate amount and loyalty towards his house and balances his time between classes and dedication to Quidditch. Outwardly, he is the epitome of a young wizard aristocrat.
Behind the impeccable manners lies a passionate heart. Once Edric has set his mind on something, he never does it half-hearteldly, striving to achieve excellence and (public) recognition. He pus long hours of practice gladly. Typical to a Slytherin hourse member, the methods he uses to achieve his goals aren't always upright. When something has to be done quickly, he doesn't hesitate to choose the path of least resistance, forgetting about the rules. With that being said, he isn't the kind of person to double-cross people on a personal basis. Respect and honour are values that he has internalized in his core.
The things he loves most are ones that involve a healthy dose of adrenaline, like Quidditch and duelling within the Defence Against Dark Arts class. Due to his ability to keep a cool head even in heated situations and quick reaction time, he is one of the best in both activities not only among his peers, but can measure up to professionals. These qualities also make him a reliable person in an emergency situation, which, along with his organisational talents, has earned him the position of Team Captain in the Slytherin's Quidditch team.
While he's good in situations that require him to decide and act quickly, the dark-skinned boy has his difficulties with core decisions and questions. Behind all the confidence, passion and nonchalance, his true allegiances are still unclear. On the one hand, he desperately wants to prove to the family patriarch that he is worthy enough to be the heir of the Vosper family. He is determined to do anything it takes to become that in his eyes. On the other hand, Edric can't remain blind to how the philosophies of his pureblood-supremacist grandfather conflict with who he is, blood-wise as well as some of the things he believes. Yet these issues remain unresolved; ghosts that stir up existential doubts and fear within the young man.
With his peers, he is a rather cheery and gregarious individual, qualities that allow him to make friends rather easily. More often than not, he will be engaged in pleasant albeit somewhat flippant conversations. When people get closer to him, they will see a side that is more dry and sarcastic. Teasing and insults to some degree are a sign of his affection and playfulness more than anything else, although they might be interpreted as malicious by a more sensitive soul.
Edric Ariston Vosper was the fruit of the love of a pureblood wizard of noble descent, Darius Vosper, and a muggleborn witch named Annie Abbot he met and fell in love with during their years at Hogwarts. Needless to say, the fact that Annie was not only of unacceptable blood status but also came from the Gryffindor house, made the union doomed from the start. There was no way that Ariston Vosper, Darius' , would ever allow such disgrace into his traditionally Slytherin family. His brother, somewhat of a free thinker himself, accepted his choice, and his sister was rather indifferent, more occupied with her own possible matches. Nonetheless, the young and idealistic couple decided to face the odds and ran away together.
Unfortunately, their relationship didn't last too long as the strains of a life in hiding became too much of a burden for their fresh love. The whispers about a dark power rising didn't help matters either. Annie felt more and more uneasy and guilty about putting Darius in danger by making his own family cast him out as a “blood traitor” until one day, when their firstborn child Edric was about four years of age, she decided to leave the family behind and went into hiding. Darius was devastated and found himself utterly unable to cope with his small son, who was missing his mother terribly. Edric cried for her every night, and even his health got affected. Finally, Darius' brother came to the rescue, acting as a mediator between the Vosper family patriarch and the wayward son. After long negotiations, Ariston agreed to take Darius and his son back in, seeing as the boy had been the only male grandchild that could continue the name 'Vosper'.
Edric adapted surprisingly well in the new environment and his longing for his mother was soon overwhelmed by exciting new things and activities. Yet in the Vosper house, there was no day that he wasn't reminded of how his blood had made him inferior to other members of the family, how his mere existence had dirtied the proud name. As a result, Edric tried to compensate it with receiving the top grades, joining clubs, etc. Even at an early age, he displayed some magical abilities. For years, he only did everything to please his grandfather, to 'earn' his love and recognition. One great milestone in that path would be getting sorted into the right house.
On his first day at Hogwarts, the boy was as nervous as he has never been in his entire life. It all came down to this, to the verdict of the Sorting Hat. From how his grandfather had spoken about his mother and other Gryffindors, Edric knew that if the Sorting Hat would put him into the Lion-house, that would mean the end of being a part of the Vosper-family. He had been tolerated before, but that would be like spitting into the old man's face. Whereas, being sorted into Slytherin would mean that he'd somehow become eligible to stay. Watching rows of his peers step up and take place at the tables of the houses they've been sorted to, Edric felt more and more uneasy. When it was his turn, finally, and the Hat was put on his head, there was a long pause before it finally shouted the sweetest word, “Slytherin!”
From then on, it had been more or less smooth sailing. Getting to know more non-pureblood status boosted his self-esteem more and he went for things he liked. With his brains and talent for sports, it didn't take the boy long to become quite popular among peers and teachers alike.
