Luca comes off as very quiet, and he doesn't have many friends. Maybe avoid him due to his being a Gypsy (or Romani in more polite terms), and he's learned to put up his defenses due to the many insults he receives due to his blood and upbringing.

When he does interact with people, he usually comes off as mysterious and quite weird. He's very superstitious because of his upbringing, and even five years at Hogwarts hasn't changed that. If anything, it's made him all the more superstitious after finding out that all of the monsters his people fear are real.

He doesn't get along with many Hufflepuffs; therefore most of the few friends he has are from the other three houses. Some only talk to him because of the drugs he can provide (mainly cannabis), and he is quite aware of it. Needless to say, he's not very trusting, but he's loyal and kind. Therefore, if anyone sticks around long enough to get through his defenses, they will have gained themselves a loyal friend.

Luca was born and grew up in a Gypsy (or Romani) group which traveled all over the British Isles. They moved on from town to town, living in their carriages. Every night, the children would sit by the fire and listen and watch as the adults either told stories of faeries and ghosts, or sand, drank, and danced. It wasn't a rich life, but it was mostly a happy one.

While magic was known to spring up in some of the other Romani clans (such as in seers and palm-readers), no one had shown any sign of possessing it in Luca's clan for many generations. Therefore, when strange things started happening around him, some believed him to be cursed, possessed, or a bad omen. Luca had grown up with the Romani superstitions, and therefore understood their fear (he was a little scared himself) but he knew that nothing about him had changed. He was still himself, but he could sometimes move things without touching them, or make things disappear and reappear somewhere else.

When he received his letter at age eleven, it came as a shock. Such a thing had not happened to any of them in quite some time, and they'd believed the old stories to be just that, stories. The more fearful of the clan wanted Luca to burn the letter and never speak of it again, but Luca had always absorbed any kind of knowledge he could get his hands on. He wanted to see this school, this magical world.

While his parents were hesitant about sending him away, Luca managed to convince them (with the aid of his grandmother) that it would all be alright and that he couldn't live with himself if he didn't take this opportunity.

So Luca started his first year at Hogwarts school, and although he was teased and bullied starting from the first day, he never regretted the decision to open his eyes and this mind to this wonderful world of magic.
