Odd. That's really the one word to describe Janus Dumont. He doesn't seem to care much of what others think of him, and he doesn't mind being a bit playful with his students. Being a young authority figure, he seems to have a disconnect between acting like a student and acting like a teacher. That said, he knows when it is time to be utterly serious and will not risk his job in order to get on a student's goodside. He was a prefect in his years at Hogwarts, and he is used to abiding by the rules.

He is quick to chastise students for easily avoidable accidents and illnesses and doesn't tolerate ignorance well at all. But rather than being overly strict about it, he comes off as playful and much like a friend shaking their head at you rather than a parent criticizing behavior.

Janus is a brilliant young boy with a natural talent for healing. He took the maximum course load at Hogwarts in order to learn as much as he could at the school. Now that he has graduated, he is continuing his education as a healer and alchemist. Much of his work outside of the Hospital Wing is within the Potions dungeons. He works alongside other alchemists and healers in order to create new remedies and useful items.

You can often find Janus in his office or reading if you're looking for him. Occasionally he may be seen smoking his pipe filled with calming herbs or drinking at the Three Broomsticks on his days off. It's not that hard to find him if you're really seeking him. He gets along with students well and is generally respected by them- mostly because he gives them respect and doesn't treat them like entitled brats (though he believes some may very well be just that.)

Janus Cecil Dumont was born on the English Countryside to a St. Mungos Healer and her husband, a politician at the Ministry of Magic. His father was a muggleborn wizard who had become obsessed with the wizarding world upon its discovery, and his mother was a woman who could trace her ancestry of magic back a few generations, but they were not a pureblood family, though they could claim ties to it, not that they would want to considering they would be outcast.

As a child, Janus and his younger sister Belle grew up in the lap of luxury. He never had to want. That said, it was not a disgusting amount of money like you would think of the Blacks, Malfoys, and De Villes. They had made their own fortune without relying on old money, and his father had considerable amount of prestige which often amounted for more than their household funds. He was always an inquisitive child and spent much of his time engaged in books and gathering knowledge. When he neared the age of eleven, he was more than eager for his Hogwarts letter, and it arrived right on time.

At Hogwarts, Janus was sorted into Ravenclaw due to his thirst for knowledge. However, the sorting hat wavered towards Slytherin, but he ultimately did not end up in the house due to the fact he preferred to use less underhanded methods to achieve his own sort of greatness. He took every class available to him and, like some students had to do, he used a Time Turner in order to keep up with his schedules while at school. He was made prefect in his 5th year when he met a younger Ravenclaw boy named Finn Rosseau. The boy seemed to take a liking to him after he comforted him one day when he seemed rather upset and took a mentor-like role on. After the boy made the house Quidditch team, their brief brotherly-like bond ended. By his 7th year he had narrowed down his concentrations to Healing & Alchemy and took time to pursue a social life.

He had several relationships, but none of them were long lasting. Janus's attention wavered and his thirst for studying often came before his lovers. By the end of his Hogwarts schooling, he was having one-night stands and brief sexual encounters rather than putting for effort into something deep and meaningful.

Janus went to St. Mungos to study under the Healers there and was quick to rise through the ranks. When he learned that the Healer at Hogwarts was retiring, he applied for the position with Dumbledore and was, ultimately, accepted. He has expressed wishes to continue his studies in alchemy and now has full access to the Hogwarts library to continue his work. He is close with the potions master who lets him use the dungeons to brew his creations. Potions was the class he had always exceed expectations in when he was a student, and as an adult it was no different.

Currently he is helping a wizard create a new potion that would ultimately lead to werewolves no longer posing a threat and dangers to those around them called Wolfsbane. He believes that students should have equal opportunity at the school, and with one of the students suffering from the infliction, he knows that his work is more important than ever.
