The sky bled red, pink, purple, and gold as the sun set. The colors illuminated the dark, grim interior of the building- he could see why no one wanted to come here of their own free-will. It was for his own protection, but he couldn't help but feel as if the atmosphere added a sense of dread that, in all honesty, he didn't need.
No matter, his friends would be here soon. He had already changed out of his clothes to prevent shredding them. Unlike an animagus, his clothes did not transform with him. He blushed at the thought of one of his friends having been a girl. He imagined he'd feel more uncomfortable than he already did letting his friends see him in such a vulnerable moment. For a personality like his, one wouldn't think that Remus had so much to hide about himself. His friends found out he was a werewolf and still accepted him, so why was he still so concerned around them? Perhaps he was just afraid that he would misstep and they would no longer affect him.
He adjust his bathrobe- he would take it off as soon as the transformation started, but for now, he didn't care to walk around the Shrieking Shack naked. Now all he had to do was to wait for his friends. He was worried that he expected them to show up because it meant that if they didn't... he would be more disappointed than he ever had been before.
Remus pushed some shaggy brown hair out of his eyes and scratched the back of his head. The top of the sky was tinted dark purple. Any time now, the moon would rise, and the transformation would commence.

Sirus had detention and Peter was sick; so it was up to him. He'd hadn't done this alone since they had found out about Moony's condition, and truth be told, he was a little nervous. Well, maybe more than a little, but he wouldn't admit it in a hundred years.
James Potter made his way to the Shrieking Shack with his head held high and his shoulders and overall frame relaxed. Exude confidence. If he acted out of the norm in any way, it would likely throw Moony off or something. James wanted to make this damned experience as easy for his friend as possible. He would try to act as normal as he possibly could.
Once within the shack, he looked around at his morbid surroundings and sighed. This place only made the experience more intimidating, and depressing than it was. James often wished that they'd had another place available for them to do this in. But...beggars couldn't be choosers, he supposed.
He took the stairs two at a time, hoping that the wood would take the strain rather than letting one of his feet fall through. Once he made it successfully to the top of the stairs, James chose a room at random and went inside. There weren't that many "usable" rooms to choose from anyway, therefore if Moony hadn't been in that room, he wouldn't have wasted much time searching for him.
Luckily enough, he'd chosen right, finding his friend on the first try. Moony was dressed in a bathrobe, and James knew that that would soon be coming off. He really felt for Moony...he knew that he himself wouldn't like being naked in front of others unless it were for fun reasons. And this did not count as a fun reason. Not one bit.
"The others couldn't make it. Peter's sick and Sirius has detention..." He hadn't wanted to see the disappointment in his friend's eyes as he asked about the others, therefore he just blurted out the information...saving Remus from having to ask.

Footsteps could be heard from the downstairs room. He was used to his friends coming in their human forms (though he wondered how they stopped the whomping willow, not knowing that they transformed between states), but he couldn't figure it out, as smart as he was, how they had figured out how to open it.
But they had learned to become animagi, something that he hadn't been able to do, but then again, he hadn't wanted to. He was certain that, had he put his mind to it, he would have been able to. But even though the animagi transformations weren't painful and were done at will, he couldn't help but feel some unease with it, and he had no desire to turn into an animal if he didn't have to. He was already a freak, and he was going to have to live with it for the rest of his life.
The thought made him clench his jaw as his eyes proceeded to stare down the broken scenery.
He heard James's voice, and he turned, his expression changing almost instantly- it was rapid, from looking displeased, to joyous, to... confused and sad. Sirius? Peter? Where were they? He hadn't thought they were on bad terms, and yet...
Listening to James's explanation did nothing to keep his heart from sinking. He understood that it was beyond their control, but the one thing that had made these transformations bearable was the presence of his friends. And now two had abandoned him. He knew it wasn't true, they would be there if they could... any normal person might have shown their frustration and disappointment.
But Remus just gave James a hopeful smiled and crossed his arms, his body language signaling the fact he was putting his walls up so that he couldn't be hurt further. "Sorry you had to come alone... you don't have to stay if you have something else to do. But, I appreciate it, Prongs. Really." Nothing about that sounded convincing, even to himself. He didn't want James to leave- he didn't want to have to suffer through it all alone.

Seeing the play of expressions on Remus' face made his heart ache. It made him feel as if he was at fault, even though he hadn't done anything wrong. He'd stopped in the middle of the room, feeling more unsure than he had in a while. James shifted his weight from one foot to the other, "Moony..."
His voice was firm with a hint of...pleading? He had no way of knowing what his friend was going through, having never gone through a werewolf transformation himself. He also hadn't had to deal with waking up the next day...and to deal with that pain... James understood that Moony was likely angry and upset, though he never showed it (for he knew that he himself would likely have gone mad with rage by now) but...when he could see his best friend closing himself off like this.
James' chest felt really tight, and he felt the need to either grip onto something hard, or yell out in frustration. But rather than doing either of those, he opted for clenching his hands into fists, behind his back. It wouldn't do to have Moony see him do that.
"I'm not going anywhere."
Once some of the tension had left his body, Prongs walked over to the bed that sat in the middle of the room, and took a seat on the edge of it. He then looked around to make sure there were enough blankets. They were all dusty --some even filthy-- but it was better than no blankets at all.
And he could never imagine making Moony sleep naked and uncovered after his transformation, or forcing him into his clothes with all the injuries he was likely to sustain. Therefore the dirty blankets were the best option, and from the looks of it, there were enough in there for four of them.
Hazel eyes then finally settled upon Moony again, "I want to be here."

He hadn't even noticed that he had been holding his breath; but as soon as James said he would stay, Remus let out a long exhale. He felt a little lightheaded, but he couldn't tell if that was from the fact that the sun had nearly fully set or the fact that he hadn't breathed properly.
And even with his impending transformation, he felt some sense of relief. He didn't think he gave his friends enough credit sometimes. He knew that they had his back, but he had spent so much of his childhood friendless and abandoned that he was always afraid of them leaving for whatever reason. His mind liked to imagine situations worse than they are.
He should have been thinking happy thoughts- he had been told that while the transformations would never be less painful, focusing on the good in his life would help them to be lest violent. But his mind constantly drifted to darkness and being alone, and that... maybe that was why having everyone there helped him. He had no fear of hurting them; and on good nights, he would play with the others in their animal forms.
Gracefully, he walked back to the window's ledge before closing the window. Last thing he needed was himself or James to fall out of it in case things got out of hand.
And no sooner that he did that he completely froze in place, eyes widening as he stared up at the glowing white moon. Every bone in his body felt as if it were being broken. His muscles began to rip, tear, and shift. He could feel the hair pushing it's wait up out of his skin, covering his body in the brown fur. He never screamed, even when his face began to change- his voice was frozen or else he might have.
The sounds, however, of the transformation taking place were horrifying. Skin was stretching out- the snout elongated formed out of bones from his skull. And soon, he was all fours- a wolf in every shape and form. Except for his eyes, there was something very off about his eyes.
This transformation was not going to be a happy memory. The night didn't call for that.

For some reason he'd been under them impression that he and Moony would have more of a conversation before they had to change shape. However, when his best friend walked over to the window, apparently to close it, the other boy began to transform.
James had seen it many many times in the past years, but never once had he gotten used to it. Not once had he thought it was normal or painless for Remus. He'd never asked Moony right out, but it was likely...almost as painful to talk about his condition as it was to change shape like this.
He kept his eyes open and fixed on his friend, he heard every little stretch, pop, and crunch of the change. James wanted to be sick; and not because the change was disgusting...but because he felt helpless in helping his friend while he had to go through such a painful experience.
All he could do was sit on the edge of the bed and watch. James' hands were gripping the mattress, and he forced himself to keep from changing. He felt that he had to watch to hear, almost as a punishment for being unable to help Moony through this.
Only when all semblance of humanity had left Moony, except for those peculiar eyes, did James get up and start his own transformation.

The night would turn out to be one of his worst in years. Despite the fact he had James's company, the wolf fed off of his insecurities and anger- and took it out on himself and his aching bones and muscle. He had no desire to attack the stag; but he bit and scratched at his own arms and legs; and he ran in circles from restlessness.
Yes, it was a memorable night, but for all of the wrong reasons. Remus's mental state had contributed significantly to the horror that befell that night; but damage could only be properly assessed the next morning when, as usual, he began to turn back into a human. The fur receded, his snout faded back into the human skull, his muscles and bones ripped and broke, realigning until finally a very naked Remus lay on the musty old bed.
He had never gone to sleep in his wolf state, but he had eventually been calmed down into a state where he was able to rest. That, and he was pretty sure he had broken his leg- well, his arm as a human. Along with the familiar pain, he found his arm unable to be moved. He tried to make a fist and hissed from the pain. It shouldn't have been that surprising, really, as the blood from freshly opened wounds (re-opened by the transformation) began to once again stain the sheets.
He couldn't find the will to get up, but that was no matter. One of the nurses would be there any minute to escort him to the Hospital Wing. And, judging by how light-headed he was getting, he needed to get there very soon. He could see a deep gash on his leg- had he really done that to himself? How... he found the thought fading as what was left of his alertness left him, and he finally lost consciousness.
