The overhanging branches of the willow tree, beneath which Regulus sat, extended out over the Black Lake. If the weather was more autumnal, Regulus would have been able to watch golden leaves fall gracefully into the lake. It would have been relaxing. Smiling bitterly to himself, Regulus conceded that his time for relaxation was over - no matter how prettily leaves might soon fall in the autumn, he would have no spare time to sit and observe nature. This year was his fifth at Hogwarts. Play time was over. He would have to spend all of his spare time studying for his OWL exams and practicing Quidditch. He couldn't have his grades be any worse than Sirius', especially since his older brother didn't even seem to work for the marks he received, and Quidditch scouts really started looking at Hogwarts players after their fifth year. While Regulus knew that being able to play professional Quidditch was a dream, he would like to be able to say that he could have made a decent team when he was older.
While looking down at his Charms textbook, Regulus became lost in thought. Charms wasn't his worst subject, not by a long shot, but he simply didn't find it as compelling or as interesting as say, Arithmancy. He'd had private tutors and a knowledgeable House Elf teach him rudimentary charms before he went to Hogwarts, so Regulus felt that he'd already mastered most of this coursework. Still, it wouldn't do to be as cocky as a Gryffindor and not study. He would bring dishonour upon his family if he didn't do well in his OWLs, and Regulus couldn't think of many things worse than his mother berating him (loudly, with knives) for his petulance over the next summer. It was bad enough that he hadn't made Slytherin Prefect this year. Shaking his head, Regulus tried to clear this thoughts. He'd never get much studying done if his mind kept wandering off...
Just as Regulus glanced back down, intent upon getting some actual study done, he heard a soft crunch coming from behind the willow tree. He casually put a hand into his school robes and gripped the wand he had stashed there. There was no telling who might be behind him; his brother's gang had a weird habit of creeping up on him sometimes, and it often seemed like they appeared out of no where. After noting the quickest route of escape, Regulus turned his head to see who was approaching him.

Pandorah wasn't usually big on lakes, at least not this time of year. Big secret was she didn't know how to swim. Coming from Germany there were not many opportunities to go out for a swim and enjoy the nice water, because the water wasn't all that nice. In fact it was so cold you would be more likely to freeze off small limbs just upon entrance. Yet she loved the way water looked, enjoyed being on a boat and looking out over the great expanse of blue, or black or whatever color the water was depending on the time of day and region she was in. Today she wanted to check out the lake, like she did every year..several times in fact, to let Sasha bat at the tiny things that would come up near the surface, near the edge to spy on the people walking by. The feline was so very playful when she wasn't being a complete and total fussy priss that is.
In her arms were two books, one a heavy tome dealing in Arithmancy, her subject and specialty, the other astronomy. She was interested in trying to cross check the two divination types and see what she could come up with. Sure it might be chillier but she liked the cold and was used to it, it was the heat she was not all that fond of. Long black hair was loose and hung down her back, getting picked up by a breeze every now and then as she wandered her way to the large lake that dominated one area of Hogwarts.
Sasha bounded off toward the lake just as she stepped on some leaves and a twig. Looking down she raised a brow, surprised at how loud the sound was. The prefect sighed in exasperation and walked closer to the large tree, a tree that was not like the other one, thankfully. The last thing she needed or wanted was to get a concussion so early in the school year. Then again, it wasn't like she wanted one at all, ever!
Rounding the side of the willow the leggy brunette locked eyes with Regulus and tilted her head curiously. She knew who he was and there was a large chance he knew who she was as well. The tallest sixth year girl, a Ravenclaw and rather elitist and haughty. There were other reasons to know about her as well but that would depend on how much you listened to the rumor mill, and how much you actually paid attention to her pale face and icy eyes. “Hello Regulus. I was not expecting anyone else to be out here. Would you mind if I joined you perhaps?”
Pan harbored no ill will toward the younger Black sibling and saw no reason not to speak to him civilly. her crisp and clear tones showcasing her German accent well. Not to mention he wasn't all that bad looking, but she wasn't interested in those sorts of things. Well, that was what she kept telling herself.

born on your feet, running forest fires underneath your bed
Today, Cissy was just about as panicky as a chicken in a fox’s den. Many of her items had been disappearing on her lately. Perhaps someone had been borrowing them. She’d sent many letters to her parents to see if she had left some of her items at home while she was packing, which rarely happens. However this year was a little different, she had forgotten to pack a week before they were to leave, so everything was absolutely rushed. Cissy left many things at home. A few of her books (luckily she was able to use spares and share with a few roommates in some classes), her collection of outerwear for her trips to Hogsmeade over the winter, and her socks and stockings. She hated forgetting and borrowing things, which was why she had sent various letters to her mother. Complaining bothered her a little bit, but it’s how she got things done as a Black.
She tried finding all her relatives for two reasons. One, to get some straight talking time; she hasn’t seen them since the end of fourth year, which was dreadful. Her parents told her that they were “too busy” to allow her to go out and visit them. Being the youngest had its downs, as in “not being able to take care of herself”. Cissy could take care of herself. She was old enough and quite deadly in the dark arts; so what was the reason for her not to go? Apparently she was “still a baby” at fifteen. How ridiculous. The second reason to talk to her relatives were, that apparently, her mother had sent out her items to her uncle in which, should have given them to her cosuins to get them for her. Either way, it’s been about a week since school started, and she’s only accumulated her books through owl mail.
Her feet scurried through the halls of Hogwarts, looking for her cousins, but to no avail, she hasn’t really seen any of them, not even that annoying hound of a cousin Sirius. She searched the day before for them and found no one. Funny thing was that she had only searched for two hours before going off and doing some of her own...business. It wasn’t bad business, just that, she seemed to have started watching one of the other slytherin boys since the year started, but that wasn’t her mission today, Today she was looking for her things out in the courtyards and grounds. Including the lake at that very moment, in which she had spotted one of her cousins, Regulus.
He was with a girl apparently. Perhaps she was in his fancy, kind of ridiculous the way she looked, dark hair, large eyes, kind of reminded her of a sheep. She proceeded toward him in her normal face. “Reg, has my mum sent anything to uncle Orion to you within the last few days?” She paused for a moment and took a breath, “I’ve been searching for some items.” Cissy slowed her speech down, she might have disturbed him while talking to the girl. “I apologize if I came at the wrong time.” Her eyebrow shot up as she glanced at her and back at him.

Upon seeing Pandorah, Regulus released a ragged breath that he didn’t even know he’d been holding. He’d never really interacted with the tall brunette, but he knew her name and lineage. She was from an old German family; Regulus knew that they were pure-blooded, but he wasn’t sure how well to do they were. There were quite a few people who had the pedigree, but not the galleons to match. Regulus felt that he was quite lucky in that regard, as he’d been raised in a manner befitting a pure-blooded aristocrat. He caught Pandorah’s gaze as she tilted her head slightly, and gave her a quick flash of a grin. Before she spoke, he took in her appearance. Pandorah was someone that he’d glanced at from a distance; now that she was up close he noticed that she was really quite tall, almost as tall as him. Her height and bearing made her look quite regal, although Regulus couldn’t help but wonder if she intimidated other boys their age.
As he straightened his back up against the trunk of the willow tree, Regulus listened to Pandorah ask if she could join him. Why she would want to sit with him of all people was unknown to Regulus; he wasn’t exactly the most interesting of people, nor was he the smartest or best looking. Girls, other than the ones he was closely related to, rarely paid him any attention. Unthinkingly, however, he nodded at the good looking girl and gestured for her to sit. “It’s good to finally speak with you, Pandorah. I’ve been meaning to introduce myself.” He pushed his dark brown hair behind his ears, as it was starting to fall in his face. The charms textbook that he’d tried to concentrate on lay abandoned in front of him. He nodded toward it. “I’m studying for Charms at the moment. It’s difficult to concentrate on the subject, since it’s become so tedious. Watching the weather and people pass by has become more entertaining.” People watching was something Regulus had become good at. As a Slytherin, he knew that it was always good to know peoples habits and weaknesses. Sometimes, however, he’d just like to sit, watch people, and make up strange back-stories. It killed time when he was bored.
Shortly after he’d exchanged small talk with Pandorah, Regulus heard someone else stumbling upon his little sancturary. This time, Regulus didn’t delve into his pocket to find his wand. He wondered whether this was because, with Pandorah here, there was strength in numbers, or because he didn’t want to show weakness in front of an attractive witch. Before he could ponder on the implications of that, his cousin Narcissa came into view. His face softened into a smile: Narcissa was one of the cousins that he was closest with. They were both in the same house and in the same year. He’d heard that some mudbloods and half-bloods actually assumed that they were brother and sister, since they had the same surname. “Good afternoon to you too, Cissy.” Regulus turned to Pandorah and quickly made introductions. The two girls probably knew each other, but etiquette dictated that he go through formalities: “Cissy, this is Pandorah Koenig. Pandorah, my cousin Narcissa Black.” Noticing Narcissa’s raised eyebrow, he mirrored her appearance by raising an eyebrow back. Surely he could speak with a girl of good birth and standing without his family questioning him. With that in mind, he decided not to acknowledge Narcissa’s question about whether she’d come at the right time. “The only thing that’s been sent in the post from father has been a quidditch broom servicing kit, Cissy. I have yet to read the letter that accompanied the kit. Did you need me to check if it mentioned anything in particular?”

One expertly manicured brow lifted at the breath Regulus let out and she subtly shrugged her shoulders. Perhaps she had just startled him, it was possible. If the Slytherin boy were to probe any he would be able to find out just how well off her family was. There were several reasons that Pandorah was a haughty bitch and not all of them had to do with the fact that she was a pureblood. Being born filthy rich sometimes had that effect on people, also being waited on hand and foot and catered to at all times. Once in awhile she let it get to her head and had a few issues with control and power, but usually she was pretty cool headed and didn't care about other people enough beyond ordering them about as a prefect should.
The flash of a grin surprised her and it showed by a slight widening of her pale eyes. Honestly she was used to people usually not wanting to talk to her. Her acerbic tongue and quick wit took many people off their guard and tumbled them down proverbial stairs, add to that her height and bearing and she was quite the force to reckon with. When he finally gestured and indicated that it was alright for her to join him she sat down nearby, folding her long legs underneath her so that they wouldn't be sticking out and in anyone's way. Not that she cared if someone tripped but more because she didn't want another person kicking or getting their dirty feet on her lovely legs. So she had a bit of an ego, was a little vain, nothing wrong with that...right?
“Oh, you have?” She tilted her head her thick hair falling off to one side. “Well why did it take you so long then?” The words were not meant to be harsh but with her accent probably came off as a bit sharp and critical, like most everything she said. “Ahh Charms, not a bad class though not one of my favorites. I prefer Arithmancy of course.” It was well known just how much she excelled in that course, especially since she was actually an Arithmancer now. “Watching people can be quite the learning experience.” Especially when they had no idea you could see what they were doing and therefore could use that information to your whim and desires. “Though I do hope the weather holds, I heard it might rain fairly soon here and the rains this time of year are so frigid.” It was a simple conversion but nice to be having one at all. She knew she needed to be a bit more friendly and outgoing, but she was not about to jump into a crowd of Hufflepuff and Gryffindor and say hello, she much rather preferred Slytherin and her own Ravenclaw.
There was another presence soon however and Pandorah tilted her head just enough to get a full view of the other. Oh, it was Narcissa. The little Slytherin that had been eying a certain other of her house recently. Not that she had a ton of proof but she had seen her once or twice. Slowly she blinked, making it more of a bored reaction than anything else. Her opinion on the girl was small. She was a grabby hands shrew from what she had seen, not to mention the other girl looked like she had seen the dark part of several bathroom stalls more than once. There was pretty, and yes the blonde girl could be called that...but then there was something else. A smirk formed in the corners of her lips and she ducked her head to keep it hidden for now from the other girl, though with Regulus being so close he had more then likely saw it before she could let her hair hide it. Pandorah could have quite the cruel and vindictive face, she knew she was built for it but that didn't mean she had to show her entire hand already.
“I know of your cousin yes. Though I have no introduced myself formally I have heard so much about her already.” Once she could keep her expression in check she turned to look back at the Black girl, face devoid of anything, like an icy mask. Though her eyes belied the intelligence and quick wit hiding within. She let them continue to talk and settled her back against the tree more comfortably. Really, couldn't a girl talk with a boy without there being anything else involved? Slender, long fingered hands opened up the heavy Arithmancy tome and leafed through it till she found her hand written notes. What she thought of Narcissa right now was entirely in her mind and she wasn't going to let it be known. Really, it wasn't negative, not that she thought anyway. A negative thought was usually a lot more vicious, this one was just honest. Though honestly could be quite the barb in and of itself.
