and flowers might wilt when we walk past and self-help might help when it makes us laugh
Afternoons were pleasant for Autumn. Today however, she had absolutely nothing to do. Hence forth, playing with Knitsworth, her rather fat Persian cat. She ran up to her room and collected her ball of twine and whistled for her cat. But, where was he? She whistled again. “Knits?” she whispered aloud, making noises with the ball. The was no meow from anywhere, just the rattling of the heater and people talking downstairs. "Where in the world have you gone, you obese cat?” Autumn placed her knuckles on her hips and called out to her cat again.
Obviously, things were going nowhere and he was probably hiding, like he always did at home. Of course Knits wouldn’t really stray too far from Autumn’s bed. Its where all his toys and treats were kept, she hid them pretty well too. They were kept in a place cats or other sorts of furry creatures couldn’t appear, and it was well camouflaged so no eyes, specifically anyone who searches the room for various stashes of candy or food. She was really good and hiding things. But getting caught, it happens once or twice. She wasn’t a troublemaker, only just extremely unaware of her surroundings at times. Specifically that time.
The bundle of Knit’s belongings was out on the floor, sprawled out for all to see, and a few cat treats were exposed. Autumn eyed the bundle, then looked around if anyone was there before whistling for her cat again. She jumped while hearing a very loud and bothered ‘meow’ from behind her. “Oh my god, Knits. You scare the living out of me sometimes.” She scratched behind his ears as he purred deeply. Knits had always been her cat since her first year at Hogwarts. Autumn always adored the way his face seemed as if he had run into a wall face first.
Autumn heard footsteps behind the door out of the dormitory and looked around the room. The cat treats! She made a very wobbly attempt at shoving the bag underneath her bed. Her eyes scoped out the room for any other consumable belongings, but all was exactly the way it should be. She plopped down on her bed and stroked her Knitsworth. Her nostrils twitched with the faintest scent of fish. The bag. She threw it underneath the bed, it shouldn’t let out any smell…unless it was opened.
She threw herself to the floor next to her bed and looked under. Such a big mess, a smelly mess, a very noticeable smelly mess. She shook her head and began to pick up all the pieces and putting them in the bag. Hopefully, no one was around to notice that she was only halfway underneath her bed. She really hoped no one was, this would be quite embarrassing to tell someone, or worse, telling it to a prefect.

Around the Gryffindor House it was quite busy in the girl's dorms. Many were just getting done with classes and rushing about. Some to study, other to activities. Some girls were already talking about dances and what they would wear, or what boys would ask, giggling about crushes in their rooms as they wrote and doodled in class scrolls.
Really witches were no different from teen muggle girls back home. She'd watched Petunia fawn over the Vernon boy with her friends. Really Lily didn't quite understand the appeal, but whatever made her sister happy and less angry at her Lily liked. Still it was funny to see, magic or muggle, girls were still girls. It was better than dealing with the boys around school right now.
Somewhere nearby as she wandered through the dormitory she heard the soft whistle and voices. Usually it didn't really bother her till she heard it again. That caught the Prefect's attention. She stopped and listened a little better now to try and find where it was coming from.
It sounded like someone had lost something or was calling something as she started to follow the noise as best as she could. Coming to a fifth year dormitory she opened the door looking around before seeing a girl under one of the beds, or rather halfway under the bed. Giving her a curious look Lily stood there for a few minutes thinking she'd notice her, but after a moment she just cleared her throat and smiled.
"Is everything okay in here?" She asked softly, looking down at the student a bit concerned. Had she lost something, or hiding...though it was a pretty bad job at hiding.
Walking in closer, her smiled stayed in place as she moved towards the bed. "Do you need help finding something Miss?"

and flowers might wilt when we walk past and self-help might help when it makes us laugh
Autumn froze in her place as she heard someone speak. Caught. Punishment, she was ready for it. She poked her head out from under the bed, leaving the closed bag underneath her bed. “I was only looking for a bag I had” She laughed nervously and scratched the back of her head. Knits meowed pleasantly from behind her as if to say ‘good one’. Autumn turned her head and stared at her cat. “I was also trying to find Knit’s twine ball.” Autumn was terrible at hiding things. She could keep secrets yes, just not items.
She decided to change the subject. “I’m Autumn by the way” She made a smile, hopefully she wouldn’t be in too much trouble for having food. “You’re a prefect aren’t you?” She thought for a moment, who were the prefects in gryffindor? A female name, sounds like a flower, “Rose right? No wait, don’t tell me…uhm” She stared at the floor to gain any type of memory, “Blossom, uh, Lilly! Yeah, You’re Lilly right?” She was proud to figure out. Her memory didn’t really fail her, this time.
Her eyes wandered about the room as she got up and sat on her bed. The faint and airy smell of cat snacks were beginning to fade as she stroked knit’s fur. “Oh and this is Knitsworth by the way.” Autumn said delighted. “Kind of an odd name I know. My father named him, it was either that or Tinkles, personally I like calling him Knits.” He meowed again and purred comfortably to her stroking.
Autumn began to feel a little awkward, she might be in trouble, then again she might be not. Hopefully she was able to avoid getting in trouble by a prefect on the first few days of school. It wouldn’t be a really great way to start off the year, typically her third to last year at school.

With people, especially those in the younger years, Lily knew how to read them fairly well. The tension she saw go through the other's body made her go still where she stood as if she herself had become some sort of threat in coming in to check on the other. As Prefect she'd known some crazy things to be hidden in the rooms. There were some students around who had the innate ability to want and keep the very things that were forbidden, or wander in places they shouldn't go. However that last bit Lily would never really get too upset about as she'd been caught many times when she was younger skirting the edge of the forbidden forest in hopes of seeing a unicorn.
"Did you find your bag?" Lily asked, relaxing a bit when the girl had come out from under the bed. It didn't seem like she was doing anything too evil or suspicious. No dragons under the bed, that was always nice, just like it would be nice to get through the first month without a girl accidentally setting her sheets on fire. Hearing the soft meow across the room Lily felt a soft fur tail run across her calf as her own familiar poked her head out. The brown head peering into the room with bright blue eyes. Mathilda loved other cats, and really Lily found it hard to keep her own in check when it kept running off to go play with others. She was still a kitten, bought fairly soon after the end of her fourth year as she couldn't convince her parents for the first few years to buy her an owl. "Oh now you've got Mathilda's attention." The brown cat padded further into the room looking for the other cat as the other girl began to talk.
"Yes, Lily. Lily Evans." She spoke up after hearing her go through other plants first. "My mother loved flowers." She joked softly as she moved in a little closer, leaning against one of the four-poster beds as Mathilda jumped up onto Autumn's bed to get a closer sniff. "Seems like you have a new friend. We heard you whistling outside and I was curious as to what was going on. It's very nice to meet you though, and you as well Knits." She smiled, a hand wrapping around a post.
"Just playing and losing things then this afternoon?" A small laugh left her lips as she sighed, "You're a fifth year right? Lots of things to look forward to this year, lots of work with exams. Happy to be back?" She was trying hard to get to know more than just the first and second years. The young kids usually needing someone around to guide them, but it was older students as well she wanted to make sure were alright, as often they were left on their own once they knew not to get lost. Even she sometimes still felt in over her head. It was natural.

and flowers might wilt when we walk past and self-help might help when it makes us laugh
Autumn made a giggle as she watched Knits try playing with Mathilda. It was nice to find someone with a sociable cat, usually poor Knits was left alone to sleep on various shelves of the Gryffindor house. There was one time that he did get stuck between a bookshelf, the heater, and the couch. Almost had his entire tail burned off. It was around Christmas of last year when her father wasn’t able to be home and asked if she could stay there in the school for the holiday. It wasn’t a problem, she mostly slept throughout the entire day, until she heard someone complain about a cat yowling through the heater vents. The memory of that night always gave her a laugh or two.
“Yup, spending the day with him.” She nodded, “He’s been awfully sulky these past few days, I think he’s cleared all the pests in the common room.” Autumn listened to her question and took a moment “ Haha, yup fifth year. Dad warned me of the exams, I’m trying not to stress out about them too much,” She smiled. Her summer was great, going back to school seemed sort of like a chore for this year. The classes were much harder, also the classes were getting more dull. “It’s great seeing everyone again, just hopefully I won’t break anything this year in Quidditch.” Of course, quidditch, that lovely game. Since third year she got in as a beater, broken her arm twice that first year on the team. Autumn liked to consider herself as the bludger magnet, they always seem to come to her for some reason.
“So, what about you? Sixth year, are you happy to be back?” Autumn produced some sort of mix between a chuckle and a laugh, it felt kind of odd in her mouth. She always thought it was common courtesy to ask someone who’s asked her a question on how they are, back to them. So she also had to add, “I know since you’re friends with Potter and all, get asked those questions about your summer a lot, aha you don’t really have to answer.” It made her seem sort of awkward, but Autumn wouldn’t mean to bother her. Being somewhat acquainted with Potter and some of the more popular gryffindors through the team made her feel good that she didn’t really have exact speaking terms with him. She was honestly more frightened of him than the bludgers.

Mathilda really didn't look at cats so much as other cats, but things to rub again, climb on, and general just bother. Already she'd been scared of by the groundskeepers own cat for trying to be friendly. She seemed to like Knits, and the reverse didn't seem to be too far from the truth. "Mathilda gets so much attention home she'll just get spoiled. However it's nice to have some more friendly familiars to play with. I've been so busy with Prefect duties she doesn't always get the attention she should." Now that her animal seemed content to linger and play with its new companion Lily didn't see any reason to just run off right away.
Besides, Autumn seemed rather enjoyable. Sitting down on the bed across from her she smoothed down her skirt, "Well what a good cat, now if only he could do something about some Slytherins." She chuckled, giving a small nod, "Well I would think I'd be more concerned about broken bones then exams...but that is right, you play Quidditch don't you? I'm fairly bad about the game, I don't get to see them that often." Really she'd only managed to go to a few, mostly when other girls from school would drag her out with them, occasionally she'd gone to a few with Severus, mostly chatting the game away about school and things.
"I wish you luck with the exams and Quidditch. Yes, sixth year and prefect again...it's nice, preparing for our own big exams. Realizing in one more year I'm going to leave this place is a little sad." She scratched her head a bit and chuckling, However her amusement was soon quelled by the other mentioning Potter as she looked over at Autumn and signed. Of course she'd know Potter wouldn't she? He was all about the Quidditch, and the fame that came with playing, the girls...and now...
"Unless there is another Potter I have no idea what you're talking about." Her tone grew a little cooler. Really as far as her summer went it had not been the greatest, and she had a list of people to blame for that, which Potter was on, "He must be telling his little stories. We aren't friends, we just happen to live in the same House and go to school together." She sighed and smiled again, trying to not show how bothered he made her.
"It's complicated...my summer was fine. Spent most of it reading, listening to records my mum got me. Gets kind of boring when you're not allowed to use magic where I'm at." She'd been in trouble once already for that, and she wasn't willing to try that again. "What about you? Anything exciting?"
