[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote] Rahim grew up in a very large family with seven siblings, all girls. As his parents prized only son Rahim is under quite a lot of responsibility to excel in everything he does and uphold their family traditions and honor.
He is a respectable sort of boy, enjoys learning and reading as well as studying the many manifestations of magic. However, unknown to his parents he also harbors a fierce love of literature, art and philosophy. Rahim has extensively read the collected works of many famous muggle writers and poets through the library of the English tutor he had growing up. William Shakespeare is by far his favorite and he owns his entire collection of plays and sonnets charmed to look like difficult spellbooks.
He is usually very calm and there is little that can move him to the point of real anger or intense emotion. He is capable of bouts of quick frustration and annoyance, along with other emotions such as excitement and happiness, yet it still remains that he is generally a very temperate and level headed person.
Until coming to Hogwarts Rahim had never really had to venture out and make friends, having grown up with practical ready-made companions in his sisters and many cousins however he is an affable person and people tend to like him, even if they do regard him as a bit strange.
He is not British and makes no pretense of being so, spending his time outside of school in his traditional clothes, that along with his accent and odd customs tend to draw a giggle out of many of the students.
He does well in his classes and enjoys them except for Divination which his older cousin Ashta teaches. She was the one who suggested he attend Hogwarts for a more rounded education. Rahim does okay in Divination, though his lack of real instinct for the subject is a cause of frustration for Ashta.
Despite being a voracious reader, Rahim enjoys another aspect about studying at Hogwarts. In India he followed professional Quidditch teams, even though his family was against the idea of him getting involved with the sport. Here at Hogwarts however, he is on the Ravenclaw house team and enjoys it immensely.
Rahim grew up on his family's large estate in the lush heat of Southern India. His family is considered one of the country's most ancient and prominent families in both wizarding and muggle India.
As living with family is the cultural norm, especially in rich families such as his, Rahim grew up alongside his many cousins and siblings, raised by grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives as well as his parents.
His family was very large and the grandiose estate held at least fifty people at any given moment, not even counting the number of servants scurrying around it's vast, open halls. Unlike the British ideal of pure-blooded, rich and historical, Rahim's home was always filled with warmth. Laughter, singing, dancing, music and the smell of rich, aromatic food being prepared as bare footed children raced about trying to catch one another.
Despite this, Rahim always felt a little disconnected at times with his family. Even at a very young age he loved to read, and his english tutor (the first white man Rahim had ever seen) had introduced him to classic literature. Rahim devoured every book he could get his hands on, fascinated by the world described in their pages. As many of the books he read had been written by muggle authors, Rahim kept his hobby secret from his parents, unsure of how they would react.
He was still desperately curious to know about things beyond the estate and lands owned by his family that he had grown up on. He had never left the estate and it had begun to feel incredibly small to him.
Rahim found understanding with his favorite Aunt Ashta. She had always been very kind to him and she was the youngest of his aunts so it felt easier to talk to her about things. Plus she had traveled extensively all over the world. Rahim loved to hear tales of the places she had been and the people she had met.
As is common in rich, large Indian families. The children were taught magic on the estate, beginning at an early age. Rahim had always done well and it was recognized that he had a talent for more physical magic, whereas many in his family were drawn to nature based and spiritual magic. the summer of his 13th year, his parents began to make plans for him to attend India's official school of Witchcraft and Wizardry called Abhyankar, in order for him to hone his talents.
Ashta, however, who was teaching at a notable school called Hogwarts at the time, wrote to his parents suggesting that Rahim complete his schooling abroad. She had known how much Rahim wanted to travel and wrote that she thought it would be a very educational and important experience for him.
Had her sister not been at Hogwarts it would have been very unlikely that Priyanka, Rahim's mother, and his father would have let him go. But eventually they agreed it would be good for him.
So when school started the next year, Rahim was to begin his first year at Hogwarts. As he had already had exposure to magical theory and training in different subjects he was allowed to enter the year that correlated with his age. He was sorted in the headmasters office as a Ravenclaw.
This is his second year at Hogwarts and he enjoys it very much. He has developed an affinity for the castle and for his friends, and especially Quidditch. He misses India, but it is a great comfort to know that whenever he feels homesick he can just pop by Ashta's quarters for a hot cup of tea and some familial company.
