Perfection. It's a word over used in many sayings. Perfection is the key to happiness or Strive for perfection. Athena could live off of these. Though she is very far from perfect, she sees herself as top of the world. She doesn't see a thing wrong with anything about her. Her mindset is that she is a goddess. One that should be worshipped, and if not, she was sure that there would be a force to be reckoned with.
Though many people like to believe they are Athena's "friend", she is a very independent person. She would play the whole Quidditch team if she could. Relying on other people is not her forte. Her mind is set in a mode that does not allow her to trust others. Finding a way into this girl's heart is like finding a threshal in the forbidden forest. Damn near impossible.
Athena is a strong willed girl. Maybe not as physically strong as she would like, but she knows how to protect herself. When she wants something, she is determined to get it and normally does succeed in getting it. She doesn't let anything or anyone stand in her way. This is why she has many people (mainly girls) who dislike her. Though many people would like to believe otherwise, Athena is actually a pretty smart girl. She lives up to the description of the goddess Athena. Except she is far from perfect.
Lilian Raine was glowing. Her face was bright, her eyes were wide, and her stomach was at large. She had always wanted a baby, specifically a baby girl and here she was going to have one. She couldn't have been more excited. Her husband, Liam Raine, kept to himself on the subject of a child, but Lilian didn't care. This was going to be her child, her baby. Nothing was going to stop that.
They lived in Athens, Greece. At the time, this was a city filled to the rim with magical families. It was the perfect place for Lilian to bring her aristocratic angel into the world. It was early in march when it happened. Early in the morning, Lilian had felt pains and was rushed to the magical hospital. Only a few hours later, Athena May Raine was born into the world, being named after the goddess.
Athena was pampered, even at a young age. She lived in a large mansion, the house elves accounting for more than the actual people who lived inside. Lilian, hesitant about her child going out into the magical, or even muggle, world got her blessed by many magical priests and wizards. She had Athena's fortuned read by dozens of oracles to make sure her only child would be safe. Though she did all of this, she didn't account for the one person who could hurt her.
Liam never liked the idea of having a child. As a child himself, he had always planned on letting his brothers carry on the family name. He just wanted to find a beautiful wife and live the rest of his life. Without chldren. When Athena was born, Liam was ignored entirely. The house elves would forget to bring him things and most importantly, his wife forgot he was even around most of the time. That was no acceptable.
When Athena was five, Liam snuck into her bedroom in the middle of the night. He stared down at her sleeping body, her face the exact mirror image of her mother's. He frowned in disgust. Taking out his wand, he placed it on her chest. Suddenly, a blood curtling scream came from the door. Before Liam could think, he spun around and killed his very own wife. Athena woke with a startle to see her mom laying on the floor, eyes open in shock...dead.
The next day Liam took Athena and they moved to England. They moved into an aristocratic magical neighborhood, almost mirroring their neighborhood back in Greece. Everything seemed to be almost the same, except now, there was no Lilian. All Athena had left were the house elves and if she was lucky, she occassionally had her father around. If she was lucky.
As Athena grew up and came into her magic, Liam encouraged her to do all she could with it. He pushed her to learn all she could. He shoved books upon books at her. Needless to say, by the time she was actually allowed a wand, she knew almost every incantation there was with it. Liam, finally happy he was carrying on the name, made sure Athena had everything she wanted. But nothing could bring back Lilian.
When Athena recieved her acceptance letter to Hogwarts, she was joyous. Some neighbor kids would be going their as well. Liam, havig heard of it, knew exactly where his daughter would end up in there. Slytherin and an eye turner. Liam was right. Upon entering Hogwarts, Athena was immediately sorted into Slytherin and accepted into a group of fellow aristocratic purebloods.
As the years went on, Athena found her full power in all that she did. Quidditch, class, and especially boys. Trouble seemed to draw towards her. Her temper would flair and she would cast a spell at a fellow student. However, her father did not care about this. All he cared about was her living up to the Raine name. Which she did. Whenever he looked at his own arm and saw the dark mark, having recieved it the year Athena entered school, he knew she would continue on the Raine name, even with this mark on her own arm .
