Player's Name: Garret. ;D Other Characters: Peter Fidel Pettigrew and Elexrian Leesan Koenig. Contacts: PM, flimsysparrow on AIM. Random Fact: Psh, I'm Garret, how much more interesting can it get?
Name: Scully Osbert Fenn. Alias: Scully would do, if you're on a personal basis with him; if not, of course, it'll be Professor Fenn or just Fenn. Age: 28. Birthday: May 8th. Gender: Male. Blood: Muggle born; all of his wizarding blood comes from his grandparents. Sexual Preference: It's a mystery. ;D Wand: Unicorn hair, birch, 13 inches, springy. Pet: His only pet is a basically useless barn owl named Fennel; she belonged to his grandfather, and she's so old and senile that she takes ages to deliver things, and sometimes comes back to him with the same letter in tow. He still doesn't utilize any other owl. Special Ability: N/A.
Experience: Seven years. Residency: All seven. Concentration: Care of Magical Creatures, although he began as a Muggle Studies teacher.
Hair: Scully's tawny hair could be described as messy, yes, but messy in a very controlled, deliberate way. It's not very long, only falling to the nape of his neck in the back and rarely coming into his face, but it makes up for length in thickness. Eyes: Brown, large, expressive and somewhat wild. Height: 6'1". Weight: 175 pounds.
Scully isn't a very complex person, really, if you get past the somewhat unconventional way he tends to run things. A lot of strangers and students think of him as a lunatic, which is the absolute farthest from the truth. He may come off as a little eccentric and generally all over the place, but it's only because his mind moves pretty fast - faster than his mouth, at least. He pays more mind to what he's thinking than what he's saying, and in result can be thinking coherent thoughts and spout a bunch of random nonsense that no one else understands. He's a very good teacher, regardless; he gets his point across, at least, even if he sometimes leaves his students confused. He's learned to become somewhat patient with people of lesser intellect, so he doesn't mind taking a few steps backward to explain himself better during a lesson. However, there's an extent to his patience; Scully can get extremely impatient with slower people, or those that are simply unwilling to learn. Of course, it's a rare occasion that he gets to the point of yelling or screaming. Usually, he'll just give up and ignore them until his temper wells down. He has an understanding of children, so it's difficult for him to get too terribly angry. As far as disciplining students goes, he doesn't enjoy it at all, particularly giving detention. He only does that if he's had a reason to get extremely angry. He'll freely deduct points, however, although he's very hesitant to snatch any from Ravenclaw, the house he was in. When someone is disrupting his class, instead of assigning detention, he may deduct points and then tell them to do something annoying - like sit with their arms over their head for the remainder of class time, or have them stand on one leg or possibly on their heads for the duration of class.
He's overall a pretty decent person, or he tries to be. He's very good at giving advice, and never hesitant to do so; he also can't resist a little bit of charity every now and then. He has an extremely sensitive conscience, for one thing, and for another, he believes in karma; what goes around eventually comes around, and won't hesitate to get a nice bite of your ass if you deserve it. He tries to be nice to people, anyway, and give when it's needed. He's not a wasteful person, either; he never really has anything in excess, and if he happens to, he usually ends up giving the extras away; he dislikes clutter and is exceptionally neat, but because his brain tends to be all over the place, there are days when he's swamped by notes, books, and odds and ends that he has some need for. Additionally, he never keeps anything that he doesn't need, even if it was a gift. If he has no use for something, odds are he'll end up stowing it away somewhere and giving it away as soon as he finds someone that has use for it. That's why a lot of people that know of him think that he's obsessed with giving people things, because he could easily just hand you something for no reason at all and tell you to keep it.
Scully has a love for many things, but the first on his list would probably be animals - why else would he have applied for the job as a teacher of Care of Magical Creatures? He could wrong a human if he absolutely had to, but never an animal. He views them like children, each and every one - even the more dangerous kinds. If you want him to really invest in a conversation, talk to him about magical creatures and you won't be able to shut him up. He has a terribly addictive love for chocolate, particularly Muggle candy bars, even though most of the chocolate he has a steady supply of is from Honeydukes. His third love is his grandmother's apple tart, which he can never eat enough of. Often the only thing that can make him genuinely happy is when she mails him a tin it, enchanted to stay hot throughout owl postage.
One of his flaws is that he isn't openly emotional when it comes to anger or sadness, and tends to brood alone when he feels upset in any way, rather than talk it out with anyone.Another is his temper - it's not your usual kind of anger at all, but it's still lethal. He's usually well above shouting or throwing punches, but if angered enough he won't hesitate to pull out his wand and hex someone. He also doesn't take well to criticism; it bothers him far too much if someone corrects him on something he knows well enough about.
Strangers find him, well, strange, usually. He finds humor in odd things, and doesn't often mesh into the norm of society. He finds it very difficult to make friends, but he's not accustomed to having many friends anyway, so he's still pretty content. The friends he does have, however, he treats with respect; he's also very defensive of them. He values friendship, because he isn't accustomed to being liked and accepted. He hasn't been in a relationship for awhile, only because of how strange he tends to be. He could probably call himself pansexual, though he isn't one to label his own sexuality. He simply doesn't have a preference. If he happens to be drawn to a female, all is well, but there's also a chance of him being drawn to a male. Most of the time, it rides on intelligence and what they have in common; he wouldn't be able to be in a relationship with someone ignorant that didn't share any of his interests. Enemies usually just don't receive any of his attention, but if there's enough conflict, he'll hex them until there's no tomorrow. If you try starting any sort of conflict, he won't waste his time with arguing; he'll get his wand out and curse you, without a word - though that only comes around when he's angry enough. Most people aren't worth it.
Scully's father, Ronan, was born to a muggle woman and a wizard, who were disappointed to find that he had no magical talent, while his younger sister displayed hers beautifully. Growing up, he became quite broody and insecure, quite attached to his father because of his lack of magical talent. As soon as he graduated, he left home and, a few years later, married Emmeline Magnolia, a woman he met while job searching one day and immediately felt a connection to. Two years after they married - May 8th, 1948 to be exact - Emmeline gave birth to a healthy boy she named Scully Osbert Fenn.
Scully's infantry and early childhood went by beautifully. There was no doubt that he'd grow to be something amazing; a doctor, a lawyer, a biologist. He was insanely clever, and school was boring to him - he was always seeking some sort of challenge for his mind. Ronan was delighted with his son, of course. A childhood of feeling like a huge disappointment, and now he had a child more intelligent than any he had ever met - of course he thought things were looking up for him, now. Scully was incredibly smart, but he did have a flaw; he had very few friends, and spent more time with his grandfather and animals than anyone else. Scully had an immense love for animals, even wild ones. His mother would often spy him catching bunnies and even snakes, and was so terrified for his safety that she rarely let him go outside unattended.
Yes, Ronan had bright expectations for his son's future, and had already planned and perceived most of it. But, of course, things often don't turn out as expected, and Ronan realized this one evening, a few weeks after Scully turned eleven, and Emmeline came to her husband with a funny look on her face, daintily holding a letter and showing it to him. It was addressed to their son, and bore the Hogwarts crest. Rather than causing complications, this pleased Ronan immeasurably; he hadn't been much of anything as a child, but he had produced a son that was remarkably intelligent, and a wizard to boot! Yes, regardless of him having to explain the complex situation to his somewhat distraught wife, that day was one of the happiest days of his life. And Scully, of course, was elated; wouldn't you be, too? He wasn't the type of child that had grown up among magic, unless you counted his grandfather's magic tricks (which he now understood weren't just slights of hand, but real magic) so everything about the wizarding world amazed him.
His mother disliked the idea of him leaving for an entire school year, especially for something as crazy as doing magic and having an owl and things of the like, but she honestly knew that she had very little say, especially when Ronan called his parents up and told them the news. There was no question about it: Scully Fenn was going to Hogwarts. He was sorted into Ravenclaw, just like his aunt and grandfather had been, and from there climbed a ladder of intellectual success. He had very few friends but also few enemies; he didn't need many people to make him feel content with his life, only a few to spend time with. He led a fairly average life at Hogwarts; attending Quidditch matches, landing himself in detention at least a few times for having an attitude with one of his teachers, and even twice enjoying Ravenclaw winning the house cup. After his seventh year, he knew that he wanted to teach. After furthering his education, he returned to the place that made him the happiest - Hogwarts.
He initially wished to teach Care of Magical Creatures, his favorite subject as a child, but his old teacher hadn't retired yet. He settled with Muggle Studies, a subject he was particularly knowledgable in. Teaching the class wasn't any fun for him, though; he wanted something interesting and challenging to teach. Growing up with muggles had made it too easy to teach children about them. When the old CoMC professor retired, he gladly left the position to Scully - with Dumbledore's approval, of course. He's been teaching the class for nearly five years, and has since built a small reputation at Hogwarts.
