Player's Name:Astrid Other Characters: N/A Contacts: PM – willing to give AIM privately Random Fact: I hate using the same name twice, so I just use all my nicknames on different sites.
Name: Kunal Malhotra Alias: n/a Age: 27 Birthday: December 2nd Gender: Male Blood: Muggleborn Sexual Preference: Whatever floats his boat Wand: Mulberry, dragon heartstring, 12 inches, springy Pet: n/a Special Ability: n/a
Experience: Five years of on the job experience, six years of schooling for healing Residency: Three Concentration: Healer
Hair: Kunal has extremely dark brown hair, bordering on black. It’s usually kept short, but if he gets caught up in work, it can grow quite long. His hair is soft and quite thick. It has some natural wave to it, and he normally attempts to tame it every morning, that is, if he has a morning. Eyes: Dark brown Height: 5’7” Weight: 147 lbs.
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote] Kunal is a non-nonsense sort of healer. He doesn’t accept lame excuses and will not fail to put a student in his or her place. The upside to this is he will not tolerate bullying or interhouse violence. He will also, on occasion, voice his displeasure about a situation to professors or Dumbledore. He’s unusually intuitive, and his assumptions are usually correct when it comes to students. He can tell when a student is being bullied or when someone is lying.
Some might call Kunal cold or, for lack of a better term, an asshole. He can be flippant with the students or berate them for stupidity. He has few friends, and even they wouldn’t refer to him as kind by any stretch of the imagination. However, Kunal is all talk. He has a bad attitude, but he stands up for his students, and is always there for his friends, but don’t expect him not to complain, he needs to keep up his tough front. Deep down, he’s fiercely loyal and protective, but can’t seem to manage to give a compliment that isn’t backhanded or help his friends without being a dick about it. This is cause for a lot of people accusing him of being wrongly sorted as a Hufflepuff when he should have been a Slytherin. Only his closest and most perceptive friends see through his veneer.
While usually somber and grouchy, Kunal can crack a joke or two among friends. His interests outside of healing lie in musicals, such as the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Bollywood films, and Quidditch. He can also be kind when his job calls for it. Quite uncharacteristic of his cold demeanor, Kunal prefers to wear bright colors and has a strong relationship with his mother.
Born as the only child to Punjabi hamfest Priya Kapoor and eccentric businessman Arjan Malhotra, Kunal was not permitted a quiet childhood. The family moved from London to Cardiff when Kunal was a toddler for his father’s business…which his mother complains about to this day. His father was usually absent from his life and everything he did was made into a production by his mother. His first day of school was filled with tears and embarrassment. This led to him being known throughout his elementary school as a “mama’s boy.” Essentially, this was very true.
When his Hogwarts letter came, his mother was not traumatized by the idea of magic, but, rather, of a boarding school. It took intervention from Kunal’s father to allow him to go. He was sorted into Hufflepuff arriving, and much to his later embarrassment, cried every night because he missed his mother. It took the whole first year to get used to the separation and was known to most of Hufflepuff house as a “mama’s boy” again. At first, the taunting got to him like it had through elementary school, but sometime in second year, he learned not responding made them stop. Eventually, Kunal was completely stoic – hiding all emotion.
In response to his mother’s constant berating of “why aren’t you dating? The Patils have three beautiful daughters. It’s like a buffet. I want grandchildren. I was dating your father at fourteen. You’re almost seventeen years old! Are you impotent? Are you gay?” After his mother’s second embarrassing howler (he still hadn’t figured out how she came across the idea, let alone the magic…he suspected her good friend Geet Patil was to blame), he finally starting dating.
His dates were boring, but his mother gave up on the subject of dating and moved on to harassing him about his grades, even though she didn’t understand half the classes he was taking. After learning about “wizard doctors,” she pressured him into going into the field. When he went to healer training after Hogwarts, she pressured him to specialize. Instead, in an unusually rebellious move for him, he chose to return to Hogwarts as the healing position had been vacated. His choice wasn’t made particularly well – seeing as his main reasons for taking the job was that it came up just as he was looking for a job and it would make his mother mad.
Just coming off the heels of fresh rebellion, Kunal dropped the pretense of dating and joined a recreational Quidditch team, something his mother had forbidden during his stay at school. He was quite good as a Beater, but refused a place on a professional team after his mother managed to guilt him enough. Frustrated, Kunal started spending most of his nights out, though usually in Hogsmeade during the school year.
Even though he’s been in the same position for three years, his mother continually calls him every day to berate him about not calling her enough and working only as a school healer. He’s reached a vague middle of the road by appeasing his overbearing mother and enjoying himself. He occasionally dates women she sets him up with and tells his mother he’s studying to specialize, but he also plays Quidditch (unbeknownst to her…he’d told her he’d quit), and goes out to pubs a few nights.
