Lily is, and has been through her life a rather popular girl. In general she is rather bright, and quick to catch on to things, especially magic as her first few years in Hogwarts showed. Upon first meeting she is friendly to most people, always open and trusting, which in turn has made her a lot of friends. She is in a way the sort of girl that draws people to her, very charismatic and good and being a leader. She believes in always doing the right thing, and really does not approve of the growing number of wannabe death eaters that are appearing around campus, especially since one of her own friends is so fascinated. She is good to the point where she does not realize that sometimes the right thing isn’t always easy for others, and it does cause some tensions.
With her family it’s actually fairly complicated. She is in a way the golden child because of her abilities, but her once happy relationship with her younger sister has become strained as the younger girl out of jealousy calls her a freak. This actually is hard for her to deal with as already at school she gets the same jeers from other students, but not for knowing magick, but rather being born to muggle parents. Her bloodline is a source of stress, and often it is something she hides from people because she is often the one helping others and not needing help.
The only person she is ever truly herself around is Severus Snape, having known him through their childhood she tells him everything. There are very few other than him that are as close to her, which has made the most recent school year the most painful for her.
Lily was born the younges daughter of the newly married Evans. At a very young age she was noted as a bright, loving girl. She was coddled by her mother and father to the point where her older sister was resentful of that attention, however Lily clung to Petunia, seeing her elder sister as her best friend. Growing up around their neighborhood Lily and Petunia were nearly inseparable, that was until the youngest Evans began to show signs of being different. At first it was just unexplainable occurances, then slowly Lily began to realize that it was her doing those things.
At nine while showing off for her sister she met a strange boy. She knew him because she’d seen him wandering around the neighborhoods before, but this was the first time they’d ever spoken. Severus Snape was the first person to put a name to her abilities, talking to her about witchcraft, and about the school they soon would both be sent to. It was all so fantastical that she didn’t think once of the words Petunia kept trying to get through to her. Snape was trouble, magic was trouble...
For the next two years Lily spent a great amount of time with Severus, learning what she could of the wizarding world and of the school they’d go to together. She promised she’d always be his friend once she got their letters to Hogwarts, believing that the sweet boy she knew would go into the same house as her. To her dismay though they were separated into opposing houses, and though she was quick to make friends in her new home she was not very happy about the crowd that Severus had found himself tangled up with. As the years passed she found herself praised for her work in charms and potions, joining the Slug Club, as well as earning top marks in many of her classes. She blossomed with magic, and from that earned more attention at both home and school.
Many times as they grew up at school she found herself telling Snape to not get involved with other Slytherines as there were rumors of growing numbers of death eaters. She feared they would change him, and fought often about his involvement in the Dark Arts. This she would not realize would be the start of the riff between them, that and trying to defend him against Potter and his friends bullying him. It was after such an incident with Potter and his friends that led to the end of their friendship. After defending him once more against Potter, Snape knowing her insecurity with her bloodline called her a “mudblood” the insult digging deep into the growing wound that his friendship with death eaters had already begun to make. With that the rest of their fifth year followed with Lily cutting off all ties with her friend. That summer was spent mostly inside reading and studying, trying her best to ignore the fact that this was the first summer without Snape that she’d had for years and how hurt she’d been that he’d thought that of her.
Now coming into her sixth year she is more distant with people as she has lost her confidant Snape, though still determined to prove herself worthy though she is just a “mudblood”.
