Being back at Hogwarts was like waking up from a nightmare only to find yourself within a perfect dream. Even the piles of homework and reading material couldn't deter her from loving her time at Hogwarts any less. And with a Hogsmeade weekend coming up, she couldn't be more excited to be back.
She had finished chatting with her friends in the Great Hall and had been on the way to her charms classroom when she thought she saw something out of the corner of her eye. She had gone to investigate, only to find a small, floating light heading down the corridor. However, each time she got close, it continued to move further away. She didn't know if others couldn't see it or if they weren't paying attention- maybe she'd finally snapped and went crazy.
The asian girl watched, fascinated, as the light glided its way into a mirror. Carefully, she approached- no one was here. If they were, they were in one of the abandoned classrooms having a quick shag before class (it wasn't like she was oblivious to the other student lives around her). No one, save a teacher, would question her presence here.
She stepped to the mirror, but saw nothing unusual about it, other than the fact it was covered in dust and had a few cracks in it. She put her hand on it and saw the light reappear behind her, but when she looked behind her, it wasn't there. Yet, in her reflection, it was there. Strange- what sort of trick was this? Perhaps she should ask the charms professor about it... well, not today. She was already late for class, and she'd rather skip in order to avoid the embarrassment of being called out for not making it to class on time.
She could only hope a professor wouldn't find her here and drag her back to class. Perhaps the library would be the safest hiding place...

Noah was about to take his exit from the Great Hall, noticing a fellow Hufflepuff look slightly alarmed. She saw something, even at a distance he could make out the heavy change in her expression. Chiyo was troubled by something, and Noah should have disregarded the girl. Like a child chasing after a fire-fly, he watched the asian girl venture off. There was no reason to follow her, he didn't know her that well, but he did think she was pretty beautiful. Craning his head left to right, he surveyed the area and noticed none of the other students were paying attention. Not even the wandering teachers paid no mind, everyone probably figured Chiyo had forgotten something in the common room and left to retrieve it. At least that what Noah was hoping for.
Except the path that he took to follow her wasn't in any peculiar direction, it was as if Chiyo had lost direction and was wandering aimlessly. But her eyes were upward, fixated as if she was looking for a sign from God or some type of deity. What was she seeing? Rounding up to the second floor, he noticed the girl went into an empty room. He paused, uncertain whether it was wise to go any further. Chiyo might have set a date to see someone, or she had a secret she didn't want anyone to know. So, for the time being he peered through the door, watching the female reach for the mirror. As the girl's head turned, he leaned back against the wall, feeling his heart thudding loudly against his chest. He felt nervous and yet excited, like he needed to find out more –
A slithering feeling crept through him, over took his fear and he felt himself being pushed into the room. His feet took him into the empty classroom, the entryway had been breached. It felt wrong, dirty, and yet intoxicating to be stalking someone like this. But Noah was shy in a way, afraid to get close to other people, because eyes would judge. What would his feelings be if the Hufflepuff rejected him, judged him and even ridiculed him for invading on her privacy? He could very well act oblivious and claim he had been on his way in the first place. He nodded to himself, but his heart wrenched at the idea of lying.
No, he had to be genuine.
“Are.... you okay?” his words slipped out of his mouth, as if his tongue had a mind of its own. Be genuine, be sincere. Just thinking about her response was getting him sick, and quietly he reached up to loosen the black and yellow tie around his neck. He felt like hands were upon his throat, waiting to choke him. Noah felt stupid at the insecurity of it all, his thoughts didn't line right with his own actions. He knew he was sick, but he had hoped Chiyo wouldn't look upon it too harsly.
Give me a chance. the voice pleaded as his pale eyes watched the back of the girl's hair.

The small asian girl jumped when she heard the voice- she should have seen the person in the mirror, but she had been so distracted-- she hadn't been paying attention. She turned quickly, her heart pounding in her chest. She swore that it felt like it was up in her throat. She could hear the blood pounding in her ears. But the fright was wearing off now that she noticed it was a boy from her house- a rather new addition at that. Some sort of transfer student... she felt bad for not remembering who he was.
But he asked her if she was okay. It puzzled her- he wasn't asking her what she was doing up here? Most of her schoolmates, she knew, would have wanted the gossip first, not her condition or state of mind. She swallowed down the last of her nerves and gave the boy a kind smile. He seemed unsure- but perhaps it was due to the fact he was new to the school? She didn't know. "Yes, I'm all right!" she assured him.
"You scared me... but I guess I should have been paying more attention to my surroundings," she laughed at her own actions- not in a comical way, but in her own way of attempting to relieve some of the tension. That, and she felt silly for not knowing his name- she had classes with him, for goodness sakes! She frowned a little as she became lost in thought once more. It started with an N... Nethaniel? No. That was one of the Ravenclaw boys. Nemo? No... "You're Noah, right?" she hoped that her memory wouldn't fail her. It sounded familiar, and she couldn't think of a face to go with it other than his.
She didn't question his presence, though she did move to the door to peak out and see if a teacher was coming down the hall. She hadn't been down the corridor during class, so she wasn't sure just how strictly it was monitored. Perhaps venturing up to the library wasn't the best course of action after all. She gasped and ducked her head back inside when she spotted a teacher. "Oh no. Oh no... This isn't good."

Chiyo's body appeared to coil in a fascinating way, and his eyes were focused on the display of the girl's hair – down to the very way it swayed from left and right when she turned and spoke to him. His feet grew cold and he felt something tight in his throat. Introducing himself to Chiyo was the easier part, but holding a conversation was going to be Noah's dilemma. He wondered what her tresses would feel like beneath his hands, would it be soft as silk, or was the texture of a woman's head something entirely different. Noah glanced downward to his left hand, feeling his fingers move slightly at the very thought. What kind of madman would approach a girl like that? Only men with bad intentions had ideas similar to Noah's. Her head whirled around, and peeking his eyes toward the bridge of the other hufflepuff's nose he found himself lost.
Two drops of ink, a sorrowful note – he felt the parchment the way it had instructed him of something gravely insane, unbelievable. He couldn't remember the contents of the letter, but he knew there was something miss, the orbs of Chiyo's dark eyes told him so. Then she changed, curved into something perfect, there was a smile on that girl's face. Noah flexed his fingers into his palm, the distant look on his face slowly gravitating of acknowledgment. There was times Noah would stare at Chiyo during class, but he wasn't obvious about it. He would stare at the person next to her, in front of her or an entirely different person – if she ever bothered to notice, Chiyo could safely assume Noah had a hard time focusing on one thing.
It was natural to stare now, she was the only person in the room. To look anywhere else would have been rude. Noah was thankful to Chiyo for giving him this opportunity. An airy smile reached his face, displaying the warm person he was. “I am sorry... Chiyo, right? I didn't mean to startle you. You just seemed a little distracted, concerned about something. Didn't mean to follow you like this, but no one else was so that bothered me even more.” Noah stopped right there, not wanting to get into the details of his thoughts and how they worked. But he only nodded, not denying he was Noah but not acknowledging it either. He watched the way her soft face tensed and he immediately stepped back to allow her to walk past him. Chiyo was no glancing out of the entrance, or was it an exit?
The posture of her body spoke in different amplitudes and he moved so that he could stand back against the wall, just behind Chiyo. There was something wrong and he didn't want to be the person to give the girl away. What was even more pleasing was that he was able to watch the girl's backside again, it left Noah with a mysterious impression. What was she like? So far she had been open to Noah, she didn't berate him for following nor did she appear to mind. She even remembered his name. He breathed outward, allowing the tough pressure in his lungs to collapse. Surely he could handle a change in her personality if it arose, he would accept it.
As Chiyo turned back in, she was standing closer to Noah, or maybe Noah had moved closer? Either way, he gave her a worried look. “You're not supposed to be here?” he asked, giving her a curious look but it didn't seem judgmental. “If that's the case, me neither... for obvious reasons. But you see something?”

His apology wasn't necessary in her opinion, but she appreciated it all the same. She didn't really recognize that some of the girls (and boys) in the school would have considered the behavior off or creepy, but then again, Chiyo was a girl who didn't like to jump to conclusions and believe that someone was being malicious when there was no obvious evidence. In class, Noah was quiet, and she rarely saw him speak up in the common room. In truth, she didn't know the boy at all, but he'd never given her a reason to think he was a bad person. He seemed troubled, but not evil.
"It's alright... Thank you for your concern. I thought I saw something, but..." unfortunately, now she was distracted, glancing out the window the best she could without attracting attention. She wasn't paying much attention to the conversation, but it was more due to her worriment that they would end up in trouble over this rather than trying to avoid talking to Noah. But she didn't completely forget her manners, and once she realized that she had spaced out from the conversation (not to mention the teacher had passed through the hall), she smiled back at him once more. "I'm sorry about that... I just didn't want us to be in trouble."
She sighed in relief and walked back closer to him, but leaned against the desk. Despite her upbringing,s he was a friendly girl- it was how she'd ended up in the Hufflepuff house. She was a hard worker- the only two traits that came to her naturally were her flying and affinity to animals. But that said, she was always willing to make a new friend. And she was naive in many ways- such as never thinking there was anything out of the ordinary about this encounter. Little did she know that her obliviousness was helpful for Noah's situation. He didn't have to be nervous around her because she wasn't judging him.
"Oh, no... I'm supposed to be in class right now, but I got distracted. There was this strange floating light-- it went right into that mirror over there," she got up and walked over to it, once more inspecting it thoroughly. Nothing. Absolutely nothing was there. "I'm not crazy, I really did see it," she insisted- while she always ignored rumors, she knew what a toll they could take, and she didn't want to have to deal with any unnecessary drama.

Noah spurred apologies a lot lately, mostly because he would go off on a tangent about random information. It was as if he was living a second life and had a string of philosophy to share. Sometimes he wasn't even fearful of what people thought of him, as if his anxiety was tapped out; all of the fear was directed toward himself. One day he was sure to snap, he felt the spiders run a long his arm and attempt to pull him down into some insane abyss. If he was going to go anywhere, he didn't want to be alone. The idea of perishing all by himself, why did it seem so vastly familiar and yet so distant and morbid? His life was an easy one, the only person holding him back from enjoying it to the fullest was himself. Despite the morbid thoughts his face remained calm, a light smile offered here and there whenever he felt Chiyo's gaze would come in his direction.
He felt strange, creepy in the way that he wanted nothing more than to be glue to Chiyo. To stick to someone like that would be a burden, maybe it was because his loneliness was eating at him. Ever since he got transferred here he felt odd, misplaced and not right. At the same time he felt welcome, like he belonged here. Every little emotion he couldn't make sense of, he shouldn't have had a valid to feel terribly sad or depressed but he found himself sulking. It was as if he lost someone or something important in his life, but if it was a memory, it was no longer present. That is why he was looking toward the future and he was silently hoping to have Chiyo in it. “Thanks, I really can't afford to get into trouble,” he said to Chiyo but didn't explain why. He felt like if he messed up there was going to be an intervention, but he couldn't really find where to begin.
She moved closer to him and leaned against one of the desks, and he wondered what it would have been like to have her reclined back upon it. He wasn't the first student to have the idea of filthy things in an empty classroom, but what he was thinking wasn't perverse at all. Noah was only imagining the way she was settled so that the light could hit her broad features in a way that would maximize the beautiful curves that bad up her skeletal system, her arms, her wrists, elbows... what have you, it was as if he was a drunk artist and Chiyo was meant to be his canvas. She didn't go backward, instead she was moving now and his eyes trailed after her. He moved to the mirror and did the same thing: inspected.
However, his eyes landed onto the mirror and through the cracks he saw himself as a broken man. This hair, it felt heavy on his head and he felt as if his eyes were sunken in as if he was sick. He hated mirrors, they made him feel dizzy. Noah Whitehall was forgetting something, how could he forget? Why did he forget? His eyes squinted in the mirror and he felt himself lean forward. Using his left hand he reached out, grasping on the edge of the mirror, his breathing slowing. He wanted to answer Chiyo, to tell her that he believed her, that she didn't have to worry about him judging her. To tell her that if anyone was insane, it was him.... but he couldn't, he felt awful and he tried his best to keep his eyes upon the tip of his boots rather than ahead into that damned person that sat amidst his reflection.

Chiyo wasn't surprised by his silence. He wasn't answering her- but she didn't know if that meant he didn't believe her or he just didn't know what to say. She imagined if she was in his shoes and realized that perhaps saying nothing was kinder than reluctantly agreeing. At least she wouldn't have to hear that tone that meant 'I don't really believe you." She smiled, laughing again as she thought about how ridiculous it all was.
"You're really nice." Yes, to a lot of people, Chiyo might have had a strange way of thinking. Not many people would take silence as someone being nice. They might have found the person disinterested in them or downright rude for staring so solemnly. It occurred to Chiyo that yes, these options could be true, but what as also true was her belief that everyone had good intentions, and unless that was proven wrong, she would keep believing it.
To most people, Chiyo would have been considered naive. They would tell her that she didn't know of the cruelties of the world and should be wiser in her decisions to trust people. And there had been other students who had told her that- she never said anything. How could she? She had seen some of the most evil, dark, cruel things humans were capable of. She had lived through them, but she also knew that if she believed everyone was like that, she would never have a happy life.
And she so desperately wanted to be happy- to be well liked, to be friendly, and to be there for others. So she would never think the worst out of anyone. To do so would be to give in to it all, and then it would be the evil that would have won. "I guess it's not here anymore. I was thinking of heading to the library-- you can come with me, if you want. But I understand if you want to go to class." Chiyo very rarely cut class. Today was an exception- a big exception.

Through his strangeness, he heard her voice and she said he was nice. The pang in his chest that was subtle started to unwedge into a lukewarm feeling. Shifting a little to the right, he was now facing the other hufflepuff, ignoring the mirror behind him. In a certain slant of light, perhaps his eyes looked darker, his hair a little brighter, as if he was made out of mosaic. Despite just second ago he was laboring his own breathing pattern, he appeared to be extremely fine. His gaze fell to Chiyo's cheekbones, the way her head would turn ever so slightly when she spoke. The way that beneath the rays of sun shine through the window that he could see her tanned flesh illuminate into a satin white. Noah felt high on her presence, and he wanted more. But he was afraid that if he hung around he become possessive and almost outrageously insane.
Wait. He was already insane.
Yet, Chiyo said he was nice and his bottom lip parted from his upper. Although he was reminding himself a second time that she had said it, he was still baffled. Of course he was nice! He hadn't done anything harsh, nor had he said anything to discriminate against the girl despite her story. Noah had saw her chasing after something to deny the entire situation would make him oblivious. A dangerous being resided within his soul, and he moved in such a natural manner that it was hard for himself to even calculate. Taking a step forward he moved his left hand forward to place it upon the gentle curve of Chiyo's shoulder. Class? What was that? It was as if he forgot his responsibility as a Hogwart's student.
As his palm came firmly down his fingers curled to give her a comforting squeeze before releasing her immediately. Just touching her like that made him feel like he was about to burst into flames, but if he was going to become ashes – then it was perfect. “It's not too late to go to class, but I don't really have any real excuse for my tardiness... I'd rather be absent all day and proclaim I was sick than have to face humiliation in front of the class. Detention in privacy sounds more appealing.” His tone sounded a little grim or depressed, but the look on his face said he was more than happy at her invitation. Secretly, he wanted to stay in this vacant room with Chiyo – not because he had ill intents, but being in an area where other student's could find them, interrupt them.....
Noah turned his head to glance to the doorway, and he felt the muscles in his face tighten. “Chiyo...” he said her name, wanting to write her very name upon his tombstone. “You're a beautiful person.”
Where did that come from? Or rather his mind was veering, Why would I say something so corny and obnoxious like that.. It was as if another person was in the driver's seat of his body, and only nonsense would come with it.

He said what was on her mind. Even if she didn't desire a detention either, she'd much prefer being scolded in private rather than in front of her classmates. There was something about those judgmental stares that was unnerving. She tried to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible, despite the fact that being on the Quidditch team made her somewhat known (not to mention the stunts she pulled on the broom).
"Well, it might be safer to stay here, but I didn't want to get too behind on my assignments..." unless it was Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, or Herbology, Chiyo had no natural talent in it. She had to work hard for her grades, but she didn't mind. There was something so fascinating about magic that she found studying enjoyable. She knew that many of her classmates that grew up in a pureblood household found the work to be boring and slow-paced because magic was a normal part of their everyday lives. But, Chiyo found it fascinating anyways. Perhaps it was because her family never encouraged it in her.
She looked rather confused when he gave her such a strange compliment, but she didn't look disgusted or put off. What had made him say such a thing? He didn't know her that well, and she had only met him this year. No one had ever said anything like that to her, and it made her unsure of how to respond. Did you say thank you? Did you return a compliment? Did you laugh awkwardly and go about your merry way? She just wasn't sure what was expected in this kind of social situation.
"That's really sweet," she finally said, a genuine smile brightening up her features. With most anyone else, the response would have sounded insincere and cold. But with her, she really meant it, and it was evident in her body language from her smile to her shrugged shoulders. She was obviously shy, but happy to receive the words. She didn't seek more attention or compliments- didn't start to disagree with him, but she didn't relish in it either and come back seeking for more. She took the words for what they were and proceeded to move on.
"I think we should try to get out of here though... before a teacher really does come in here."

Right now, this gentleness, he wasn't sure where it was coming from. Pressing his lips together he looked toward the space just near the door, trying not to swallow and choke on the lump that was developing in his throat. She had suggested that the two leave the room, not to depart but to venture to the library. He again swelled on the stale fact that they would no longer be able to talk with eachother privately, they would be earshot of another student in the library. If only he could convince her to stay here, but it would take a miracle to do that. Chiyo was right, the longer they loitered they were put at risk. Not like he would mind a few hours of detention just to spend maybe thirty-minutes alone with the female. Like a viper, his right hand reached out suddenly so that he could curl his fingers around Chiyo's petite forearm.
Beneath his hold he could feel the way her bones were frail, tiny, but having been laced by toned muscles. In a sense he imagined Chiyo to be even more athletic outside of quidditch, but he couldn't quite tell. He wanted to know everything about her and drink up her soul if he could, it would have been bliss drowning in everything that was Chiyo. The fingers around the other hufflepuff's arms twitched a little. For some reason he wanted to bend her in a way so that she could not struggle from him, but the more he looked up and saw the genuine twinkle of her stare, he started to feel his heart quicken. Noah had no reason to keep her here, to hold her like this. Nothing he could have said to her would make his gesture rational or urgent.
The interested gaze in his eyes started to fade. Fingers that were once wrapped around her arm were now loosely hanging onto the edge of the girl's arm-sleeves. Noah might have had an expression that said he had something important to say, but now he looked slightly confused and even concerned. Chiyo was still safe, but what about him – why had he been on the edge of doing something he felt he would regret? “Y-you're right,” he agreed, sounding nervous. Coming to some sort of resolve, he finally released the fabric, turning so that he could start for the door first. It was a good thing that his back was facing toward Chiyo, because the look on his face was pale, as if a dementor had just passed by.
Noah really wanted to run, to get far away from the girl. But she was in his classes, and the damage of his outburst was already done. He stopped right outside the door, took a deep breath in, and turned to look back at the asian girl. What was her expression? Was it one that invited him to continue to go to the library with him, or was it full of fear; requesting that he silently leave her be?

She gasped as soon as she felt his hand take her arm. She stood still, eyes wide, just watching him. Instinct told her to be fearful, but she held her ground. Chiyo wanted to believe that as familiar as she may be with the body language that she wasn't interpreting it correctly. She didn't want to believe that Noah would-- that he could hurt her so easily. She didn't want to be like all of the others who trusted no one because they were so fearful of being hurt. And she would not allow herself to believe that any man could be like her father.
He seemed to be hesitating, and he finally released his hold on her. She rubbed her arm where he had held onto it so tightly. It hadn't been painful, but the shock hadn't worn off. The adrenaline was rushing through her system; and, she could hear the blood pumping through her head. And it was no longer she who was on the defense. She thought his look resembled a frightened child. The sudden change in demeanor confused her, and she furrowed her eyebrows.
"Are you alright?" she asked, despite it being she who should have been answering it. "You look like you're going to be sick... Do you want to go to the hospital wing?" she reached out much as one would to a strange dog- wary of petting it for fear it would run off or bite them. She didn't want to scare him, though, and she took her time in getting close enough to put a comforting hand on his shoulder. To her, the hospital wing sounded like a better idea than the library at this point. She wanted to make sure that Noah was alright- she was worried about him.
"We don't have to if you don't want to," she added. "But I'll go with you..." she trailed off, her voice filled with a type of motherly concern for him.

He could see the uneasiness in Chiyo's face, even at this distance. She didn't look scared by Noah, the more he glanced into her expression, he was certain that she was only had a face of concern. If he hadn't been upset at himself over how he just acted out, he may had looked just as concerned, but now his face was slightly blank and unreadable. Noah feared if he shifted his eyes in a certain way, or moved his mouth to the side, his face would turn menacing. Really, all he wanted to do was enjoy her company. Thinking over his previous thoughts of the girl, he knew his thought process was insane and it truly belonged to a person who should be locked into a mental institute. Whenever he got close to acting in a harmful manner, his brain blanked out and he would often forget why he wanted to do something so physically viscous.
The big question, and it was from Chiyo: was he alright? It wasn't the first time he had been asked that, for he usually walked around with a paled face or may even looked shaken and afraid. When conversations actually started to begin, Noah would find his words slipping – he did everything thoughtlessly. For some time now he had been putting his efforts into not scaring or frightening the girl off. Maybe she was made of stone, unable to be scathed. Noah truly wouldn't have harmed her. Hating his own confides, he spoke up, “To be honest.. I never know I am okay. It's a long story.”
Well, perhaps it really wasn't a long story, but he had yet to share any personal information with another student yet. It was embarrassing telling a female that he had been admitted for an injury, that he couldn't recall much of his childhood; that often times he couldn't explain why he was afraid or wanted revenge. “Even if you take me to the hospital wing, it's not really a physical ailment... at least not that I know of.” Another sign that he had gone there before, with no real results. Noah's face finally shifted into a human state, a softness about the way his eyes looked at Chiyo – he even offered the female a smile.
“I really appreciate your concern..” and he meant it more than she would ever know, but his eyes looked questioning, wondering where she wanted to from here.

Chiyo was not so blind to believe that Noah wasn't hiding something, but she wondered if he even knew what he was hiding much less was able to tell her. She wasn't going to press the matter with him. It was his right to keep things to himself , and he hadn't hurt her- he had just seemed to want to tell her something but had forgotten what it was. Perhaps he never knew in the first place. His excuse to say it was a long story was just that. An excuse.
But she smiled comfortingly at him all the same. She wasn't going to judge him for it. "I see, well..." if the hospital wing truly couldn't happen. If it was a chronic illness rather than something acute, then they would know about it, and he would have already been there as his first result. Perhaps he had even been hospitalized. She couldn't be sure. But she did know that whether or not he accepted anyone's help, he was hurting. Maybe he wasn't physically hurting... but hurt was hurt all the same.
"No, it's all right. I just wanted to make sure that you would be okay," she shook her head. She didn't see her concern as something that should be thanked.
