The day had been rather uneventful - Kunal only having to handle a first year with a bloody nose in the minutes just after dawn. This was the problem with being on duty at all times - he could be awakened at any given moment to take care of students. It was amazing what children could get into in the wee hours of the morning.
Kunal sat in his office, looking out at the overcast sky. He rubbed his eyes tiredly and spun around in his chair. Regretting the lack of a television, the healer glanced over at his to-do list. He had a few potions that needed restocking. While some of the potions the students made were used, and Slughorn helped him restock, some he only trusted himself to do.
He walked back into his private stores, which were not as extensive as the potions master's, but contained the ingredients he needed. He began work on the most difficult potion on his list - the Blood Replenishing Potion. Kunal leaned over his cauldron and lit a fire with his wand. As he lined up the ingredients on his desk, the room suddenly went dark. He looked out his window, noticing the sky turning black over Hogsmeade. That couldn't be a storm, could it?
Green light flashed amongst the clouds and Kunal narrowed his eyes. He heard ominous sounds in the distance - some sounded like thunder, but other like explosions and screams. The healer left his office and hurried through the hospital wing into the corridor. All seemed calm and quiet within the confines of the castle. The younger students must have been unaware of what was conspiring in Hogsmeade, and the teachers were absent - possibly because they were in the town as well or in their respective offices.
Disconcerted, Kunal returned to the hospital wing and looked out the window towards Hogsmeade. He watched the roiling clouds intermittent with splashes of spell colors and waited.
