Dusk was such a peaceful time of day. The bustling activities were winding down, the quidditch pitch was empty, and students were making their way to the Great Hall for dinner before retiring for the evening. Juliette, however, was in the Astronomy tower, standing at the very top with the magical telescopes and devices used to chart the stars. She had homework to do and had permission to stay out an hour after nightfall. In truth, she could have waited in due time and went to eat with all the others, but she preferred her solitude above the rest.

Her stomach growled with distant hunger, but she ignored its plea. Her sickly appearance lately was not at all helped by the fact she often found herself too distracted within her own mind. But today she'd somehow had the foresight to take some rolls from the breakfast table. Taking out her wand, she cast a simple spell to heat them back up to perfection and smiled to herself as she took one in both hands and bit into it gently.

The cool autumn breeze felt refreshing as it brushed across her skin and through her hair. It was much better than being cooped up inside the castle. She took another bite and savored the flavor. It was jut a bit of bread, but it had a sweet glaze over it the house-elves put on the breakfast rolls and it was much like eating a delicious pastry to her, but it was simple and the taste not overbearing. She wasn't one for strong foods to begin with.

Her dark eyes darted up as she saw a boy clad in Slytherin robes watching her from the entrance to the Astronomy tower's roof. "Can I help you?" she asked, lowering her hands and setting the half-eaten roll back inside her napsack.

[EVAN ROSIER]

Evan had not felt the need to socialize with his Slytherin housemates at dinner. His mind had been in another place for most of the day. He had been thinking about the future and how uncertain it seemed. He had heard the whispers, read the brief mention of people who had disappeared, but he did not know what he should be preparing for.

He kept to his studies out of habit and because it felt good to excel over his peers. The subjects he enjoyed and Quidditch made the days easier to handle. However, he also knew that there was another matter that he should be concerning himself with.

He was to marry Juliette Sinclair, a pureblood Hufflepuff who he had never even spoken to. He knew what she looked like (his mother had given him a picture of her), but had not bothered to seek her out. She was a pretty thing. Too slight and a little pale, but still lovely. Still, he would much rather have been arranged to marry another member of his house or possibly even a Ravenclaw. But a Hufflepuff! He did not like the thought of publicly being seen conversing with a member of that house.

However, it would be better to get to know her before the day of the ceremony. Preferrably away from prying eyes. Although, he would not mind hexing the idiot who disturbed him.

Luckily, today seemed to have provided him the opportunity. She was alone in the Astronomy Tower and all the other students were headed to the Great Hall. He was grateful that he had thought to have the house elves procure him some food that he could eat at his leisure.

She noticed him observing her.

"Can I help you?" she asked.

Well, if he was going to do this he might as well do it right.

He smiled and walked over to where she was sitting.

"No, I just thought that we should finally meet."

He brought her hand to his lips. "I'm Evan Rosier."
