Gryffindor is the perfect house for a girl such as Effy Dumont. She's reckless, brave, and loud, and oftentimes she finds herself in the middle of a scuffle she didn't intend to start but she wants to finish. Her best subject is Transfiguration, though she is pretty adept at Defense Against the Dark Arts, too. She succeeds in any class where the main concentration is spells and their application. Anything that is mostly book work and her interest is lost. Her only bad grades come from lack of discipline.
She's known for getting detention due to her tardiness to certain classes (ahem. potions), and she seems to have a certain knack of getting into trouble.
Effy will tell you what she thinks, and fast. She doesn't really care what other people think about her and often pokes fun at herself. Sarcasm is her best friend and she abuses its gift. Her most common rude gesture is her eye-rolling which is also how she has landed herself into detention situations. She doesn't take kindly to people who act pretentious and stuck up, either. This is probably one of the reasons she's disliked by and really has it out for the Slytherins.
She enjoys Quidditch and plays on her house team as Seeker, a position which she earned her fourth year at the school after the Captain position changed to Potter. It's really a stress relief for her, and she loves flying on her broomstick. She also enjoys dueling and she has quite the natural skill for it. She's light on her feet, quick witted, and sharp.
She has a bit of a problem forming close bonds with other people, though, and has tended to be a loner for the most part, though she has friends in various groups throughout the school. Also, seeing as her brother is the Lead Healer, she takes advantage of his position and collects calming herbs including cannibis to enjoy on a regular basis with her friends. Oh, and she loves alcohol, good parties, and sex.
That said, though, she does desire close relationships with other people and secretly longs to find someone who will care about her and accept her for who she is. Seeing her brother's many failed relationships has left her jaded and unwilling to commit her heart to someone until they prove themselves worthy. But once they do, they will have a true friend for life- she views betrayal as the ultimate sin and would never subject someone to that pain, even if it meant her own downfall.
Effy was born to the Dumonts as their second, youngest child. Her older brother Janus was 5 years old when she was born. Her father was a muggleborn wizard who had taken an interest in politics and worked in the Ministry of Magic. Her mother was a St. Mungos healer and very close to her children- her influence was mostly seen in Janus, however, who took after their mother in appearance and personality. He was a very disciplined child and was much easier for her parents to handle. But she was the terror they never anticipated.
She was a naturally curious child and was often getting herself into odd situations. Also incredibly stubborn, she knew how to twist words and weasel her way out of trouble. It was seen that she took after their father in many ways being that she was inquisitive and bright, but unlike both her parents and her brother, she was often bolder and more loud about it than they were. Disciplinary action was not unheard of when dealing with her, but that didn't deter her from exploring her magical ability and the world around her.
At the age of 6, she watched her brother get his Hogwarts letter. He was sorted into the Ravenclaw house, a house meant for the best and brightest minds. Both of her parents had belonged to Ravenclaw and were extremely pleased when their son followed in their legacy. In Janus's 6th year, she joined the school as a first year and was sorted into Gryffindor house. It was a perfect fit. While some students found themselves separated from their families and siblings and became upset about it, Effy saw it as freedom to explore without consequence.
Her naturally troublesome nature took over and she became somewhat of a trouble-maker. She could never match the genius of a certain group of four boys, but she never saw it as a rivalry. In fact, she highly respected them for the genius behind their pranks and tried to learn from their mistakes when they would get caught. Usually she was more inclined to receive detention from talking back to a teacher in a sassy manner, but there were a few occasions that a failed prank landed her in the empty classroom.
In her fourth year she made the house Quidditch team as their seeker, and she excelled at it. Unlike her studious brother and parents, Effy had not taken a liking to classes where knowledge was applied in a metaphorical sense. She was very much in-the-moment and did much better at classes where spells and wand-movements were learned, and by extension flying came much naturally to her because it was something she could get out there and do, not thinking about possibly one day doing.
Now it is her sixth year and she's come to the realization that Hogwarts won't last forever. The dangers of the real world are more serious than ever what with the news of all of the disappearances and such. She doesn't feel that she's accomplished anything great that would make her stand apart from the others, and she wants to change that before it's too late.
